Kava Festival
Aloha Kakou,

The Hawai‘i Pacific Islands Kava Festival, also known in Hawai’i as the ‘Awa Festival, features many aspects of kava (‘awa) as central to culture for Hawai’i and the Pacific Islands. The festival celebrates ‘awa as an important and fundamental aspect of Hawaiian culture and a treasure for Hawai’i's people and the world.

The Kava Festival will feature live local music from Hawai’i's hottest artists, educational and cultural booths, ‘awa sampling, ‘awa plants, ‘apu making workshop by Ka Papa Lo’i o Kanewai (Hawai’inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at UH Manoa), preparation demos, pa’i'ai/poi pounding, lomi lomi massage, food booths and local vendors. The Kava Festival will also host a variety of cultural and scientific talks in the ‘awa gardens on lauhala mats open to the public. In addition, a traditional Hawaiian kapu ‘awa ceremony will be performed by La‘akea Suganuma honoring VIPs who have made contributions in culture, education and science.

You are also welcome to bring your own ‘awa, ‘apu, kanoa, lauhala or beach mat and find a spot under the trees to enjoy yourselves the entire day. It’s recommended you come early to ensure you have an opportunity to enjoy your favorite band, activity or food.

Finally please consider contributing to the ‘Awa Development Council by purchasing our new t-shirt design courtesy of Solomon Enos, Native Hawaiian artist, and other designs by Bruce Chong, Matthew “Chuna-Boy” Kaopio and Dietrich Varez or by contributions on-site at the Info Booth. We need your support. All funds raised are used to support the Kava Festival and the mission of the ADC in promoting education, science and culture for ‘awa in Hawai’i.

I Maluhia ka Honua (So that the world may be at peace).
