The Love Cafe: An Interactive Cabaret Variety Show | ||||||
The Love Cafe is an audience interactive, cabaret style variety show with all live music, singing, and dancing. Featuring local performers Ruth Shiroma Foster and Becky McGarvey, teaming up to show off their skills with iconic classic jazz standards from the 30’s and 40’s. TWO WOMEN...TWO SHOWS!! Friday March 30th & Saturday March 31st @ The ARTS at Marks Garage 6pm: Door & Bar Open 7pm: Showtime Tickets are $15 presale, $20 at the door. Ruth Shiroma Foster is a pianist, vocalist, ukulele player and songwriter. Ruth brings listeners to the intimate side of every song she sings, whether accompanying herself on the piano or ukulele. Ruth is musically rooted in gospel music, but her piano and vocal training has included jazz and classical music. Ruth has performed at various venues around town, including Medici, Hawaii Public Radio, The Dragon Upstairs and Chuck's Cellar. In addition to being a lifelong musician and music educator, Ruth is a writer, photographer, filmmaker, and handbag and clothes designer. Becky McGarvey is a dancer, choreographer, actor, and producer. She dances with IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre, and Divino Ritmo. She has choreographed for the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival, and Playbuilders of Hawaii Theatre Company. She has produced and choreographed work for the Oahu Fringe Festival. Her most recent acting credits include “The Happiest Song Plays Last,” at The Actors Group (TAG), “Who Killed Gilbert Botello” at Kumu Kahua Theatre, and “Dragonfly” with Playbuilders. She has a BFA in Dance Theatre from the University of Hawaii, and has also studied at the Boston Conservatory. The Love Cafe is an all live show, there is no recorded music. Song list will include several tap dance numbers, as well as “Beyond The Sea” with its original french lyrics. Audience will be invited to sing along, and come onstage to dance, and are welcome to enjoy the Bar@MARKS libations and gallery space throughout the show. Audience is also encouraged to dress up in the style of the times! PARKING: FREE street parking after 6pm, $1.50/hr before 6pm. Chinatown Municipals Garages, $4 flat rate after 5p (Beretania or Bethel St. locations). |
