27th ANNUAL “I LOVE KAILUA” TOWN PARTY Get ready to celebrate Kailua’s biggest event of the year: the 27th Annual “I Love Kailua” Town Party, taking place on Kailua Road in Windward Oahu from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday April 28. A favorite feature of this community street party are the food booths with flavorful specialties from Kailua-area restaurants. The Town Party is also an opportunity to enjoy shopping, great entertainment and family fun. Over 75 Windward artists and hand-crafters will have their work on sale; there will be plants and orchid sales; and the popular “I Love Kailua” logo booth will have limited-edition apparel and accessories. Many Kailua merchants will hold instore and sidewalk sales. Party-goers also can look forward to non-stop live entertainment; the Kama`aina Kids keiki fun zone with rides and jumpers; Adventist Health Castle’s mini health fair with free screenings; and a variety of community groups with information to share. The 2019 Kailua Town Party is a fundraiser presented by the nonprofit Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle (LKOC) and supported by Alexander & Baldwin. Organizers encourage Kailua residents to leave their cars at home and walk or bicycle to the pedestrian-friendly event. What better way to work up an appetite before hitting the food booths? Proceeds from this year’s Town Party will support LKOC’s new beautification project to refurbish the plantings at Alala Point, a project the organization installed in 1994 from proceeds raised at the very first Town Party. LKOC has been funding the maintenance of that landscaping ever since. “In keeping with our mission of long-term commitment to our projects, we are excited to be able to update and refresh the plantings in the area with the help of funds raised at this year’s event,” said LKOC President Diane Harding. EVENT DAY ROAD CLOSURE ADVISORY: The event will close all traffic lanes/sidewalk areas on Kailua Road on April 28, from Hahani St. to Kuulei Rd., fronting Whole Foods, the former Macy’s building and Kailua Shopping Center. Traffic will be diverted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please plan accordingly. Kailua - residents are strongly encouraged to walk or bicycle to the event. Three floors of parking will be available in the lot fronting Longs. Enter from Hahani Street, near Teddy’s Bigger Burgers. Accommodations for securing bicycles also will be available.
